The Colonial Regional Police Department is reaching out to the community to partnership with us in supporting our K -9 Program.
The department was established in 1995 by the host municipalities of Hanover Township, Lower Nazareth Township and the Borough of Bath.
We have grown from a small beginning of eight officers handling 7,000 calls for service per year to the premier law enforcement agency in
Northampton County employing twenty four officers and handling 9,800 calls for service per year.   With the support of the citizens and
businesses such as you the department’s first K – 9 “Robby” was placed into service in 1998.  In 2004 Robby was replaced with Rex,
a Belgian Malinois which was again purchased through Community Donations.  Unfortunately Rex will be retiring due to his age this year
and we will be seeking his replacement.  Upon his retirement he will be living his golden years out with his partner Sgt. Darrin Wendling.
We have seen the need to expand the unit and purchased “Erya” also a Belgian Malinois this year through drug seizure funds provided to
us by the Northampton County Drug Task Force.  Erya, is currently in his initial training stage with his partner Officer Cody Hendershot.
The K – 9 unit has been a valuable tool to assist our officers in protecting our communities.  A dog’s ability to enter and search a building
for an intruder helps to keep your officers out of harm’s way.  The dog’s uncanny sense of smell is a great asset in detecting narcotics and
tracking persons.  The departments K – 9 unit has an impressive record and we are hoping to continue to provide this service to our communities.
The department is seeking donations to help defray the cost of purchasing Rex’s replacement and supporting equipment.   Your contribution
will be greatly appreciated to help us reach our goal of $30,000.  The department has also applied for government grants to assist with the costs
however these grants are extremely competitive and difficult to win.   If you wish to make a tax deductible contribution to support your K – 9
unit please make your check payable to the “COLONIAL REGIONAL POLICE DEPARTMENT” with a notation K – 9 and mail it to
Colonial Regional Police Department 248 Brodhead Rd. Suite 1 Bethlehem, Pa.  18017.
Remember your contribution will help us to help you. Please feel free to contact me with any questions, comments or suggestions you may have.
Thank you.
Sincerely,
Roy D. Seiple
Chief of Police
