The Colonial Regional Police Department conducted their Fifth Citizen’s Police Academy in the Fall of 2007.  Twenty five individuals from Bath, Hanover Township, Moore Township, Bethlehem, Nazareth, Catasauqua, Bangor and Northampton attended the twelve week course.  Students learned about Police History, Legal Issues, DUI, Judicial Systems, Crime Scene Processing, Drugs and Drug Paraphernalia, Traffic Enforcement, Identity Theft, Crash Investigations, Self Defense Tactics, Use of Force, Gangs and the Police K-9 Unit.  The Northampton County Deputy Coroner spoke along with tours of the Northampton County 911 Center, PennStar Helicopter and the Northampton County Prison.  Two full days were spent on the shooting range to teach the students gun safety and proper shooting techniques.  Students were also invited to “ride-along” with officers during their shifts to experience the day to day activities officers face during their patrols.
