The Colonial Regional Police Department has been a member of the Northampton County Drug Task Force (NCDTF) since the Colonial Regional Police Department’s inception. Currently, there are 18 officers assigned on an "as needed" part-time basis. Sergeant Michael Melinsky is the Field Supervisor and coordinates all drug investigations which encompass 26 municipalities within Northampton County. Sergeant Michael Melinsky and Chief Seiple are members of the Board of Directors for the Task Force. Sergeant Wendling, Detective Horvath and Sergeant Melinsky are also cross certified as Lehigh County Drug Task Force Officers.

The Northampton County Drug Task Force is funded by the Pennsylvania State Attorney General’s Office. The costs involving case expenses, purchasing of evidence and officers salaries are provided by this funding. In 2007 the Colonial Regional Police Department was reimbursed $ 41,377.09 for the sole purpose of paying officers salaries.

In 2007 approximately 868 man hours were dedicated to the Task Force drug investigations conducted in Northampton County; of those Colonial Regional Police Department participated in the vast majority.

Among some activities that Colonial Regional Police Department participated in were 60 operations, 28 undercover drug purchases conducted, eight (8) drug arrests (four (4) felony and four (4) misdemeanor), and four (4) search warrants executed.

CRPD has worked closely with the Drug Enforcement Administration (D.E.A.), Pennsylvania Office of the Attorney General, Bureau of Narcotic Investigation and Drug Control, The Lehigh County Drug Task Force, the cities of Easton, Bethlehem and Allentown Police Departments, as well as numerous other municipal police jurisdictions.

Most of the drugs that the NCDTF has contact with are Marijuana, Crack/Cocaine, Methamphetamine, Heroin, Ecstasy and various illegally obtained prescription drugs.
