2007 Year End Letter from the Chief Over the past year several positive changes have occurred within the Colonial Regional Police Department. We have been continuing to maintain our compliance with the Pennsylvania Law Enforcement Accreditation Standards in the every day operation of the Department. A manpower study was performed to determine the proper staffing level of the Department. Pursuant to the study three officers, Andrew Laudenslager, Jason Spirito, and Cody Hendershot were hired. The officers began their careers by attending a five month training certification program at the Allentown Police Academy. All officers are now within the ranks and patrolling the communities. The Colonial Regional Police Department is now compromised of 24 full time sworn officers, two full time and one part-time non sworn employees. The Colonial Regional Police Commission entered into a contract with Chapman Borough to provide three years of police service. Chapman Borough was previously patrolled by the Moore Township Police Department. The Department continues to seek grants and was successful in receiving $10,000 from the Department of Community and Economic Development. These funds were used to purchase eight Tasers, a less than lethal force alternative. After three years of waiting the Department has taken delivery of nine Panasonic Mobile Laptop computers which have been mounted in the patrol cars. Using these computers the officers are able to access operator’s license and registration information without using the radio. We are in the final stages completing our incident reports in the patrol cars and submitting them wirelessly to the headquarters. The possibility for this systems use is endless. In 2007 the officers responded to 9610 calls for service which included 533 criminal arrest, and 988 automobile crashes. Officers issued 997 Parking Violations, 1797 Traffic Citations and 741 Warning Notices. The Department budget was $2,221.471 which was an increase of only 3.8% over the preceding year. The members of the Colonial Regional Police Department are committed to providing our communities with professional efficient police service. The Department exists to serve our municipalities by protecting citizens’ life and property; by preventing crime, by enforcing laws; and by maintaining order for all citizens.
