Colonial Regional Police Department’s

2006 Citizen’s Police Academy

The Colonial Regional Police Department conducted their Fourth Citizen’s Police Academy in the Fall of 2006. Fourteen individuals from Bath Borough, Hanover Township, Moore Township, East Allen Township and Northampton attended the twelve week course. Students learned about Police History, Legal Issues, Judicial Systems, Crime Scene Processing, Drugs and Drug Paraphernalia, Traffic Enforcement and Crash Investigations, Self Defense Tactics, Use of Force and the Police K-9 Unit. Students experienced speakers such as Northampton County Coroner Zachary Lysek, Retired Magistrate Barbara Schlegel and Public Defender Jim Burke. Tours were taken of the Northampton County 911 Center, PennStar Helicopter and the Northampton County Prison. A full day was spent on the shooting range to teach the students gun safety and proper shooting techniques. Students were also invited to "ride-along" with officers during their shifts to experience the day to day activities officers face during their patrols.
