Colonial Regional Police Department’s Student Intern Program INTERN – " Someone working as a trainee to gain practical experience in an occupation"
Throughout 2006 Colonial Regional Police Department had two (2) student interns experience the duties of a police officer. One (1) was from DeSales University and the other one (1) was from Moravian College; both taking courses in Criminal Justice. The intern from DeSales University is an aspiring law enforcement officer with an interest in K9 work; which had her riding mainly with Sergeant Darrin Wendling and K-9 Officer Rex. The interns spend 126 hours observing various functions of the police department functions. Exposure to daily patrol functions, criminal arrests, court procedures, public interactions and inter-departmental workings are the goal of the intern experience. Students are evaluated by Deputy Chief DePalma at the mid-term level and at the completion of the intern session. This evaluation is provided to the student’s school, who then assigns the student a grade. Colonial Regional Police Department feels the Student Intern Program has been a success and hopes to continue the program into the future. |
