The Colonial Regional Police Department has made several notable accomplishments in 2006. On December 16, 2006 the Department received its accreditation status from the Pennsylvania Law Enforcement Accreditation Commission (PLEAC). This culminated an eighteen month period of intense review and documenting proofs of compliance to over 124 accreditation standards. Deputy Chief James DePalma was the Accreditation Manager given the task to prove compliance with the standards. The process was a team effort with all members of the Department and staff contributing to its success.
The CRPD has the distinction of being the first Regional Police Department in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania to achieve accreditation under PLEAC. There are currently 44 police departments in the Commonwealth who are accredited.
The CRPD was chosen to participate in a pilot program in the Commonwealth called "Smooth Operator". The program was federally funded to target aggressive drivers on selected roadways. This concentrated program produced 431 citations for various traffic violations in three month period. The program was so successful that it will be implemented state wide in 2007.
The Department received several grants which included $10,000 from the Department of Community and Economic Development to initiate a reporting system in the patrol cars and a grant in the amount of $4,843 from the Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board to initiate a program targeting underage alcohol use.
In 2006 the officers responded to 9089 calls for service which included 88 arrests for Dill, and 877 motor vehicle crashes. Officers issued 1899 traffic citations, 796 parking violation notices and 794 warning cards.
This year the department's budget was $2,138,183.00. The budget had increased 4.6% from the preceding year however this was the lowest increase since the inception of the Department.
The members of the Colonial Regional Police Department take pride in the accomplishments reached in 2006. We are dedicated to providing our communities with professional efficient service and to making the communities a safe and comfortable place to live and work.
