CRIME WATCH / BLOCK WATCH

Crime Watch is a group of citizens, who are concerned about the safety of their community. Block Watch is a group of citizens who concentrate on the safety of their own neighborhood. Each organization is comprised of volunteers who are willing to be alert to the happenings in their neighborhood and community.

Some organizations are very structured.

  • Officers are elected.

  • Money is raised to pay for expenses such as gasoline, for using their cars on a patrol.

  • Radios are purchased for communicating with other members while on patrol

  • Community parks or streets are adopted to provide a clean safe environment.

  • "Safe" homes are established, where children can go if a stranger approaches them on the street.

  • Block Parties are formed to introduce neighbors.

  • Meetings are held with Police and Township Officials to discuss current safety issues

Other organizations are loosely knit people who are alert to happenings within their neighborhoods or communities. The intent of the Crime Watch / Block Watch is not to establish a group of "busybodies" or spies. The intent is to add awareness to the members of the community, to build a working relationship with the Police Department, and to invest time into a group effort to ensure a safe environment for the community to thrive.
