The Colonial Regional Police Department has been participating in this National Highway Traffic Safety Administration funded federal grant; partnered with Buckle-Up Pennsylvania since 2001. The grant provides financial for the salaries of the officers participating in this program.

The campaign consists of intensive, widespread enforcement for a short duration. Enforcement is conducted at specified times of the year which are highly publicized through the media. The objective is to raise seatbelt usage statewide; the goal is 90% use by 2007. Currently the state of Pennsylvania is an 82%. To reach the goal, two (2) million Pennsylvania drivers must buckle-up.

In 2005, Colonial Regional Police Department participated in three (3) scheduled enforcement "waves". They were conducted in April, June and November of 2005.

Type of Enforcement:

    • Saturation patrols
    • Seatbelt checkpoints and informational sites
    • Zero tolerance for unbelted occupants and unrestrained children
    • Motorists Contacted:

      • 1,172 – Motorists were contacted by officers.

      Total Citations were issued:

                                    19 Seatbelt citations were issued.

            1 Child passenger safety citation was issued

            142 Speeding citations issued

            18 Other felony related arrests

      Total Man Hours:

            697.02 hours

      Total Grant Monies Received:

            $6,688.36
