Officer Scott Breneman
During the November 27, 2023 Commission Meeting, Officer Scott Breneman was recognized and awarded a Lifesaving Commendation for his outstanding act of service on October 5, 2023. Officer Breneman was on duty, in full uniform, in a marked vehicle on his way back from central court in Easton, PA on Rte. 22 when he came upon a three vehicle crash. He along with a member of the Carbon County Sherriff's department who also arrived first on scene were able to extinguish the vehicle fires. Officer Breneman and a State Trooper were able to extracate two of the victims from their vehicles so that they could be transported to the hospital. While gaining access to the one victim, Officer Breneman sustain an injury to his hand. Officer Breneman acted with disregard for his own safety. Officer Breneman’s actions resulted in the saving of two lives and reflects highly not only upon himself but also the image and reputation of the Colonial Regional Police Department.
Sgt. Keith Kulp and Officer Justin Schippang
During the November 27, 2023 Commission Meeting, Sgt. Keith Kulp and Officer Justin Schippang were recognized and awarded a Lifesaving Commendation each for their outstanding act of service on November 5, 2023. Sgt. Kulp and Officer Schippang responded to the Giant parking lot in Nazareth, PA to a gentlemen who had self inflicted injuries to both of his arms.
Sgt. Kulp quickly jumped into action to utilize his tourniquet to stop the arterial bleed on his left arm then applied Officer Schippang's tourniquet to the man's right arm. Officer Schippang utilized the gauze in his patrol vehicle to wrap the victim's arms to slow the bleeding until the EMS arrived to transport the man to the hospital.
The actions of Sergeant Kulp and Officer Schippang resulted in the saving of a life and reflect highly not only upon themselves but also on the image and reputation of the Colonial Regional Police Department.
